Lead Mental Health Aide

About the Role
The Lead Mental Health Aide at Anchor Hospital provides direct care to adolescents and adult patients with psychiatric disorders, ensuring their safety and well-being. This role involves understanding and implementing the least restrictive interventions per facility policy, while avoiding seclusion and restraint whenever possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Team Leader for other Mental Health Aide Technicians, providing supervision support as directed by the charge nurse and milieu manager.
- Assist in providing nursing unit orientation to new hire Mental Health Aides, including duties and responsibilities.
- Assist in the admission process, including obtaining vital signs, safety search of patient and belongings, obtaining urine specimens, and orienting new patients to the unit and their program.
- Monitor vital signs and assist patients with activities of daily living, ensuring compliance with assigned vital signs and ADLs.
- Ensure precaution protocols are followed, and encourage patients to actively participate in all program activities.
- Assign group coverage as directed by the Charge Nurse, monitoring that groups are appropriately planned and presented for the designated population.
- Participate in hospital emergency codes necessary for the unit's and the hospital's safe operation.
- Maintain patient, program, department, and related documentation, ensuring that forms are properly and promptly completed and routed.
- Perform safety rounds on assigned units and complete required documentation.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field preferred.
- Prefer experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a Mental Health Aide working with children, adolescents, geriatric, and/or adults.
- Current CPR Certification required; Current Handle with Care and Verbal De-escalation certification.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate verbally and in writing; perform ADLs with patients.
- Work is physically and mentally demanding; extensive walking, standing, sitting, and climbing stairs; must be able to lift or move over fifty pounds.
