POSITION OVERVIEW
This role involves a moderate level of complexity, engaging with the public, court staff, and various agencies. Proficiency in computer operations, technical skills, and multitasking are critical for daily responsibilities. Effective communication and organizational abilities with colleagues and management are essential.
Flexibility in work hours is necessary to accommodate a rotating schedule for first appearance duties, which includes an additional pay incentive for those shifts (note: this premium is not included in the posted wage).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Utilizes the Clerk's Case Maintenance System (CMS) Benchmark to initiate and maintain court case documentation.
Processes case submissions via electronic filing through the state E-Filing Portal, as well as paper documents and other sources.
Performs tasks in various queues within the CMS, adhering to established timelines or as directed by supervisory personnel.
Prepares for and attends court sessions, accurately documenting all necessary information, taking minutes, managing evidence, administering oaths to witnesses, overseeing jury attendance, and executing other courtroom responsibilities as required.
Handles the preparation and disposal of cases and documents received from court, mail, in-person, or electronically. Ensures proper execution and notification to other agencies as mandated by procedure.Reviews and redacts sensitive and confidential case information prior to public access in compliance with the Florida Rules of Judicial Administration 2.420 and the Supreme Court security matrix.
Provides assistance to the public and court personnel via phone, in-person at the counter, and in court, while researching case records to furnish information.
Flexibility in work hours is essential, as overtime, evenings, weekends, or holiday work may be required based on court trial scheduling.
Additional duties may be assigned.REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with Windows-based applications and proficiency in modern office automation technology. Must pass a typing assessment with a minimum of 35 correct words per minute.
Exceptional communication and organizational skills are necessary; the ability to apply initiative and sound judgment is also crucial for this role.
Excellent handwriting is required, as much of the work involves handwritten documentation that must be clear and legible.The successful candidate must collaborate effectively as part of a team and thrive under pressure. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, take responsibility for the quality, quantity, and timeliness of work.
Seek clarity on issues that are unclear and demonstrate accountability for actions, fostering a high standard of ethical conduct and promoting transparency, accountability, and confidentiality in all dealings.
Adhere to all Clerk's policies.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least one year of relevant experience demonstrating acute attention to detail in data maintenance, preferably in an automated systems environment and within a legal context.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Proficiency in computer operations, including data entry, with a strong command of Microsoft Windows.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Capable of writing simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers, clients, and other employees.
MATHEMATICAL ABILITY
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
REASONING SKILLS
Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form. Capable of addressing problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATIONS
A valid Florida Driver's License or Florida Identification is necessary for the hiring process.
