Job Title: Accounting Associate II
Description of Work Unit: The Accounting Associate II reports to the Accounting Manager within the Budget, Administration, & Planning Unit of the Office of Commissioner of Higher Education (OCHE).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Electronic Document Filing
- Review timecard entries, send reminders, and run payroll reports to identify any issues
- Manage hard copy files - dispose of appropriately (records management or shred)
- Work on and dispose of surplus office equipment
- Organize procurement contract folder and update contract log
- Daily accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Budget review of federal program files
- Workers' Comp check reconciliation
- Assist with other general accounting services to the department as needed
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of accounting principles, with a minimum of one year of relevant experience required.
- Proficient in the use of software applications including spreadsheets, word processing, DocuSign, and database management. The knowledge and ability to develop and maintain spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of accounting systems including the ability to analyze and interpret data from various reports and information maintained by the system.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to prioritize workload and work, work on multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Organized, self-motivated and capable of working independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to draft professional correspondence and other documents.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Skill and experience in reconciling accounts, identifying and resolving errors and discrepancies.
- Associate degree in accounting, bookkeeping, business or other related field preferred.
- Experience with SABHRS and State of Montana payroll processes preferred.
