Overview

The Commissioning Engineer plays a crucial role within a diverse team dedicated to the successful initiation, commissioning, testing, and transition of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects to operational status. This position involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including ENGIE staff, EPC contractors, major equipment vendors, consulting engineers, and other specialized resources, ensuring adherence to all relevant contracts, permits, and project specifications. The Commissioning Engineer will report directly to the designated Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and coordinate all commissioning processes to transition BESS facilities from construction completion to safe, stable, and reliable operational status. This includes identifying necessary startup, commissioning, and testing tasks, executing a comprehensive Commissioning Plan, and contributing to the overall project design and execution strategy.
  • Examine all relevant project permits, agreements, licenses, registrations, and contracts (including ISO and TSP standards) to ascertain required data collection and documentation activities during the commissioning phase.
  • Ensure timely submission of all necessary documentation and completion of reviews by relevant parties.
  • Analyze QA/QC documentation throughout the construction phase to identify potential issues and adjust the Commissioning Plan as needed during project execution.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to rectify project work prior to commissioning or adapt commissioning activities to accommodate changes in project conditions.
  • Work closely with Project Stakeholders to ensure proper project closure, address any issues or claims, and guarantee that the commissioning team prepares and submits comprehensive handover documentation for operations and maintenance teams, facilitating continuous improvement and experience return activities related to startup, commissioning, and testing.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in management, engineering, science, or a technology-related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience, including at least three (3) years in progressively responsible roles related to the development, design, and construction of complex energy or electrical projects, with direct involvement in the commissioning phase.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and direct multi-disciplinary teams during the commissioning phase of BESS or other intricate electrical projects.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project conditions, develop alternative solutions to challenges, and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Strong team management skills and extensive experience in the commissioning of complex projects, particularly in the electrical energy sector.
  • Willingness to dedicate 100% of time on-site during the startup, commissioning, and testing phases of projects, which may involve travel for extended periods.
  • Proficient in technical software such as SCADA systems, EMS, and standard office applications like MS Office, Teams, SharePoint, MS Project, as well as other tools like ArcGIS, GreenIT, SAP, and Procore.
Additional Information
  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
  • Domestic travel of approximately 30% is required, including some overnight trips.
  • Compliance with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies is mandatory.
Compensation

Salary Range: $62,400 - $94,450 USD annually

This range reflects the average expected pay for qualified candidates. Actual salary may vary based on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, and internal pay alignment. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan. A comprehensive benefits package is offered, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan with company matching.
