Position Overview
The Senior Commissioning Specialist plays a pivotal role within a diverse team dedicated to the successful initiation, commissioning, testing, and transition of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects to operational status. This position involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including ENGIE personnel, EPC contractors, major equipment vendor advisors, consulting engineers, and other specialized resources, ensuring compliance with all relevant contracts, permits, and project specifications. The Senior Commissioning Specialist will report directly to the designated Project Manager.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate all commissioning efforts to transition BESS facilities from construction completion to fully operational status, ensuring safety, stability, and reliability by identifying necessary startup, commissioning, and testing tasks, and executing a comprehensive Commissioning Plan.
- Examine all project permits, agreements, licenses, registrations, and contracts to ascertain required data collection and documentation activities during the commissioning phase.
- Ensure timely submission of all necessary documentation and completion of reviews by relevant stakeholders.
- Evaluate QA/QC documentation throughout the construction phase to identify potential issues and adjust the Commissioning Plan as needed.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to rectify project discrepancies prior to commissioning or adapt commissioning activities to evolving project conditions.
- Work with project stakeholders to ensure proper project closure, address any issues or claims, and ensure the commissioning team prepares and submits complete handover documentation for operations and maintenance teams, facilitating continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree or higher in management, engineering, science, or a technology-related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, including at least three (3) years in progressively responsible roles related to the development, design, and construction of complex energy or electrical projects, with direct involvement in the commissioning phase.
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and direct multi-disciplinary teams during the commissioning of BESS or other complex electrical projects.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing project conditions, develop alternative solutions to challenges, and recommend effective courses of action.
- Strong team management capabilities and extensive experience in the commissioning of intricate projects, particularly in the electrical energy sector.
- Willingness to be on-site 100% during the startup, commissioning, and testing phases, which may require extended travel away from the base location.
- Proficient in technical software such as SCADA systems, EMS, and standard office applications including MS Office, Teams, SharePoint, MS Project, as well as other software like ArcGIS, GreenIT, SAP, and Procore.
Additional Information:
- This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
- Availability for domestic travel approximately 30% of the time, including potential overnight trips.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary Range: $62,400 - $94,450 USD annually. This range reflects the average expected pay for a qualified candidate. Actual salary may vary based on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, and internal pay alignment.
In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan.
