Position Overview

The Field Commissioning Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the engineering excellence and quality assurance of various commissioning initiatives. This position is integral to the broader commissioning team, providing essential engineering support throughout all stages of project planning and execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Commissioning Manager and Senior Commissioning Engineer in the safe and effective implementation of commissioning projects.
  • Engage in project design evaluations during the development phase and support the Engineering Contractor as necessary.
  • Contribute to the creation of all commissioning documentation, including execution strategies, system commissioning protocols, construction and commissioning checklists, and project timelines.
  • Support the formulation of facility pre-startup protocols, including nitrogen leak tests, nitrogen purging, initial fills of vessels, and circulation of production trains.
  • Participate in defining systems completion strategies at the project initiation and assist with completion activities as needed.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of commissioning tasks.
  • Identify commissioning challenges and propose solutions.
  • Develop Technical Queries and ensure their resolution.
  • Collaborate effectively with operational teams to maintain alignment with the project team and ensure a seamless transition of project systems.
  • Engage in post-project evaluations to capture and apply lessons learned for future initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of engineering manuals.
  • Prepare proposals and bid documentation.
  • Provide weekly updates as required.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through effective project delivery and quality assurance/control.
  • Collaborate with other project disciplines (e.g., Subsea, Export Pipeline, etc.).
  • Ensure the accuracy of project and deliverable documentation.
  • Adhere to GATE policies and procedures positively.
  • Foster a positive and professional culture within GATE.
  • Present at monthly meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Encourage personal and technical development among staff.
  • Participate in company marketing and business development efforts.
  • Gather feedback from clients.
  • Identify and cultivate business opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Preferred experience of 2 to 5 years.
  • Experience in drafting commissioning or startup procedures is advantageous.
  • A relevant engineering degree is required (e.g., mechanical, petroleum, process, electrical).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel offshore and internationally.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, ramps, and access scaffolding.
  • Capable of carrying tool bags weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and walk.
  • Shift duration = 12 hours (not to exceed 14 hours without management approval).
  • Familiarity and confidence in all aspects of Lock Out/Tag Out procedures on a daily basis.
