Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialist

Duke Health is seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at Duke University Hospital. As a key member of our respiratory care team, you will provide high-quality patient care and contribute to the advancement of health in our community.
Responsibilities- Administer oxygen, aerosolized medication, and other respiratory therapies as prescribed by physicians.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including pulmonary function studies and cardiopulmonary procedures.
- Assure correct set-up, safety, and function of all equipment and supplies necessary for patient care.
- Provide education to patients, families, and healthcare teams on respiratory care and disease management.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
Education
RCP
- Completion of an AMA-approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree or equivalent).
RCP Advanced
- Completion of a 2-year AMA-approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree or equivalent).
- Must maintain annual skill maintenance requirements and North Carolina annual license requirements for CEUs.
Experience
RCP
- None required.
RCP Advanced
- Six months to one year of clinical experience following graduation from a respiratory care program.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
RCP
- North Carolina State Licensure or Provisional License, Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- If CRT, must obtain RRT within 6 months of employment.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and any other applicable certifications.
RCP Advanced
- North Carolina State Licensure.
- Registry (RRT) by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRPS) if applicable.
- Knowledge necessary to make appropriate clinical decisions and interactions relative to the specific age of a patient.
- Skills validation/certifications of competencies for the duties and responsibilities of this level.
- Customer service and communication expertise.
- Work involves contact with patients of all ages, family members, physicians, nursing, and all other members of the healthcare team.
