Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at Duke University Hospital. As a Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and performing diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer oxygen, aerosolized medication, and other respiratory therapies as ordered by physicians.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning, CPR, and pulse oximetry monitoring.
  • Assure correct set-up, safety, and function of all equipment and supplies necessary for patient care.
  • Provide education to patients, families, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Requirements
  • Completion of an AMA-approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree or the equivalent).
  • North Carolina State Licensure or Provisional License.
  • Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation (NRPS) certification (if applicable to the institution).
Work Environment

Work involves contact with patients of all ages, family members, physicians, nursing, and all other members of the healthcare team. Work is performed in all areas of the hospital, including neonatal and pediatric patient populations.

Required to carry emergency airway bag weighing approximately 20 pounds. Work requires walking, running, climbing, and bending.
