The Specialist fosters an inclusive and nurturing atmosphere for campers by collaborating closely with educators, counselors, therapists, families, and other key individuals. The Jewish Community Center is committed to equal opportunity employment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Work alongside educators, counselors, and team members to meet the distinct needs of campers with disabilities and special requirements.
- Conduct observations within the classroom to evaluate camper development and pinpoint areas needing support.
- Engage in IEP meetings, offering insights and suggestions for camper objectives.
- Communicate effectively with all team members regarding camper progress, requirements, and interventions.
- Assist in formulating and executing behavioral strategies and support plans for campers with diverse needs.
- Demonstrate effective techniques for staff to assist campers with disabilities.
- Provide training on inclusive methodologies, accommodations, and interventions to ensure camper success.
- Act as a resource for staff in applying accommodations and modifications within the camp setting.
- Maintain precise documentation of camper progress, interventions, and supports provided.
- Generate reports on camper advancement and recommend modifications to support plans.
- Offer constructive feedback and guidance to staff based on observations and camper requirements.
- Support educators and counselors in designing and adapting lesson plans for campers with disabilities.
- Facilitate communication and meetings with parents regarding camper progress and support.
- Collaborate with the administrative team to align camp-wide objectives with camper needs.
- Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing inclusivity and accessibility at the camp.
- Provide assistance and mentorship to new counselors for effective support of campers with diverse needs.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:
- Foster positive relationships with educators, staff, families, and stakeholders.
- Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and staff.
- Respond with adaptability and sensitivity to evolving situations and needs.
- Keep the camp community informed about the camp's curriculum and programs.
- Prepare and maintain reports/documentation related to activities.
- Attend meetings, trainings, conferences, and events as required.
- Align mentorship efforts with the camp's vision.
- Coordinate teaching standards and maintain records and files.
- Organize workload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Report regularly on camper and team progress.
- Assist in program goal development and implementation.
- Complete all duties promptly and efficiently.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years' experience in an early childhood or grade school environment.
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Intervention or a related field required.
The Specialized Support Specialist for Education at the Jewish Community Center is a vital member of the JCC Professional Staff. Team collaboration is highly valued, and alignment with the JCC Mission Statement is essential. Job responsibilities may evolve with the changing needs of the JCC and the community.
