Position Overview:

The Dallas Independent School District is seeking a dedicated Special Education Inclusion Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in fostering an inclusive learning environment for students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage collaboratively with students, families, and educational staff to formulate Individual Education Plans (IEP) through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process for each assigned student.
  • Design and implement instructional, therapeutic, or skill enhancement programs tailored to the unique requirements of each student, ensuring thorough documentation of preparation as mandated.
  • Work in partnership with general education teachers to adapt standard curricula as necessary, providing support to special education students in mainstream classrooms.
  • Utilize a range of instructional strategies and resources to accommodate the varying needs and abilities of each student.
  • Conduct continuous evaluations of student progress through both formal and informal assessment methods.
  • Oversee student behavior and enforce disciplinary measures, including crisis intervention and physical restraint when required, in accordance with IEP guidelines.
  • Consult with classroom educators regarding student behavior management in line with IEP, and liaise with district and external resources to address educational, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
  • Stay informed and adhere to federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies pertinent to special education.
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with time and effort reporting standards for federally funded positions through personnel activity reports or periodic certifications, as applicable.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at the designated worksite, which is crucial for this role.
Work Environment:

The typical noise level in the work environment is moderate. Travel within the district is a fundamental aspect of this position. Remote work or alternative arrangements are not available for campus-based roles, as consistent attendance and performance of duties on-site are vital.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Valid Texas teacher certification with necessary Special Education endorsements.
  • Minimum of one year of student teaching or an approved internship experience.
  • Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement.
  • In-depth understanding of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee process and the IEP goal-setting and implementation process.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instructional methodologies.
  • Awareness of the special needs of students within the assigned area.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills essential for achieving the objectives of the position.
  • Ability to adapt to the challenges of a dynamic educational landscape.
  • Willingness to stay updated with the latest advancements in the field.
