Overview

This role qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which is a reimbursement initiative for student loan payments. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Compensation: Competitive salary with annual performance bonuses and regular salary increments

The Geriatrics Section operates under the Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) Service. The Staff Geriatrician will provide care to elderly Veterans with various complex geriatric medical conditions and dementia, requiring interdisciplinary specialty consultations, evaluations, and management. This role will also involve overseeing a designated panel of geriatric primary care patients, who often present complex needs and are at high risk for hospital readmissions and emergency visits due to multiple comorbidities. Veterans will be assessed and managed by a core interdisciplinary team, including a Geriatrician (MD, DO), Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Pharmacist, and Social Worker integrated with the Geriatrics team.

The incumbent will lead the Interdisciplinary Geriatrics team in the East Bay region to fulfill the Service's mission and objectives.

The Staff Geriatrician will report to the Medical Director of the Geriatrics Section and will share on-call duties with other Geriatricians in the section. Opportunities for academic collaboration and research activities are available and encouraged.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Additional Requirement:
  • Board certification in Geriatric Medicine.
Preferred Experience:
  • Expertise in geriatric medicine, including knowledge and practical experience in dementia care, mental health management, rehabilitation, transitions of care, and healthcare systems navigation.
Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position.

Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
