This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a reimbursement initiative for student loan payments. The Geriatrics Section operates under the Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) Service. The Staff Geriatrician will provide care to elderly Veterans with complex geriatric medical conditions and dementia, requiring interdisciplinary specialty-based consultation, evaluation, and management. The incumbent will also lead the management of a proportional panel of geriatric primary care patients, who often present with multiple comorbidities and are at high risk for hospital readmissions and Emergency Department visits. Veterans will be evaluated and managed by a core interdisciplinary team comprising a Geriatrician (MD, DO), Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Pharmacist, and Social Worker integrated with the Geriatrics team.
The incumbent will guide the Interdisciplinary Geriatrics team in achieving the Service's mission and goals.
The Staff Geriatrician will report to the Medical Director of the Geriatrics Section and will share on-call responsibilities with other Geriatricians in the section. Opportunities for academic affiliation and research activities are available and encouraged.

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board certification in Geriatric Medicine.
- Expertise in geriatric medicine, dementia care, mental health illness management, rehabilitation, transitions of care, and healthcare systems navigation.
Education
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
