Accountant II

Hourly Rate: $30 - $32 per hour

Operating under general supervision, the Accountant II is responsible for posting journal entries, reconciling general ledgers, and compiling financial data into actionable reports for various stakeholders. This role also includes managing organization-wide accounts payable, assisting with month-end closing processes, supporting payroll functions, and contributing to special projects. This position offers a hybrid remote work arrangement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the accounts payable process to ensure timely and accurate invoice payments. Maintain vendor W9 documentation and manage 1099NEC tax reporting.
  • Conduct general ledger reconciliations as directed by the Accounting Manager.
  • Prepare daily recurring and manual general ledger entries in accordance with GAAP for assigned accounting tasks. Reconcile basic bank statements and general ledger accounts, identifying and addressing discrepancies.
  • Process monthly fixed and prepaid asset transactions promptly.
  • Assist with various month-end closing activities as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
  • Provide accounting support to both internal and external clients and participate in departmental projects as needed.
  • Support the preparation and completion of annual tax returns and other regulatory obligations, such as the 5300 NCUA Call Report, as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain written procedures for assigned tasks.
  • Act as a backup for lower-level accounting functions and assist with some responsibilities of the Senior Accountant as directed.
  • Participate in training lower-level staff as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
  • Adhere to all Credit Union policies and procedures, including those related to Bank Secrecy Act regulations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business, with 2-3 years of general accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in financial institution accounting is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to perform calculations involving discounts, interest, and percentages.
  • Competence in basic algebra and applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical scenarios.
  • Capable of accurately following written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions. Able to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret industry guidelines, legal updates, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to inquiries from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
