About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our team in General Surgery at UNC Health Care. As a key member of our interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide high-quality, cost-effective care to patients within your scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician.

Responsibilities

  1. Clinical Care
  • Obtain relevant health and medical history, perform thorough physical assessments, and review and interpret pertinent diagnostic tests/results.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing/ordering of appropriate evidence-based pharmacological agents consistent with departmental guidelines and privileging.
  • Conduct preventive health screenings based on age, history, and patient needs.
  • Maintain clear, comprehensive, and concise records of all aspects of patient care.
Education
  • Appropriately and professionally educate clients and/or families regarding medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity and patient/family-centered care.
Leadership
  • Provide instruction to physicians, house staff, nursing, ancillaries, and/or students, including precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, morning report, and/or staff meetings.
  • Participate in community/network outreach programs and develop/lead community/network outreach programs.
Professional
  • Interact with patients and families in a respectful, courteous, and timely fashion using appropriate communication for the patient and situation.
  • Interact collaboratively with coworkers, other team members, and staff in a respectful, courteous, and timely fashion appropriate to patient care needs and situations.
Quality/Research
  • Engage in daily continuous quality improvement by identifying and implementing processes for improvement.
  • Consult with management in assessment, problem-solving, decision-making, and evaluating clinical/system issues and models of care.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.
  • Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (i.e., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina.
  • Board certification if required by the Department.
  • DEA.
