About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Technologist II to join our team at UNC Health. As a key member of our operating room team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and care of surgical patients, from infancy to geriatrics, under the general direction of a professional nurse.
  • Utilize expertise in sterile aseptic technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a surgeon's performance of invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Provide leadership at the unit level to correct safety/clinical quality deficiencies, lead/implement changes at the unit level, and assist with the teaching of newly hired technologists and student Operating Room technologists.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, staff members, and physicians, and assist in efforts to improve resources by means of Kaizan projects through yellow/purple belt status.
  • Assume responsibility for self and ensure that the policies, procedures, and safety practices of the Operating Room and Hospital are reinforced.
  • Use critical thinking to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a Surgical Technology program.
  • National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) certification or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification.
  • BLS required.
  • Three (3) years of clinical practice for Senior Surgical Technologist-A, and five (5) years of surgical technology practice for Senior Surgical Technologist-B.
