About the Role

UNC Health is seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist II to join our team at UNC Medical Center. As a key member of our operating room team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and care of surgical patients, from infancy to geriatrics, under the general direction of a professional nurse.
  • Utilize expertise in sterile aseptic technique, combining knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a surgeon's performance of invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Provide leadership at the unit level, correcting safety and clinical quality deficiencies, and implementing changes to improve patient care.
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and protocols at the department level, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, staff members, and physicians, using critical thinking to anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
  • Participate in the care of surgical patients preoperatively and postoperatively in the ambulatory surgical clinic setting, demonstrating advanced knowledge and practice of aseptic and surgical technique.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a Surgical Technology program.
  • National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) certification or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification.
  • BLS required.
  • Three (3) years of clinical practice for Senior Surgical Technologist-A, and five (5) years of surgical technology practice for Senior Surgical Technologist-B.
