Camp Leadership Program Director

**About the Camp**
Bear Creek Aquatic Camp, owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, offers a traditional overnight summer camp experience for girls entering grades 4 through 12. Located on 183 acres of beautiful Kentucky Lake shoreline, the camp provides a range of aquatic sports, including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, and swimming.
About the Role
The Camp Leadership Program Director will oversee the Junior Counselor (JC) and Counselors-in-Training (CIT) leadership-development programs at Bear Creek and travel with CITs to Camp Pennyroyal for one session. This role involves working closely with Director Teams at both camps to design and implement leadership development courses that enhance the skills of future staff members.
Candidates who are genuinely invested in developing leveled leadership programs for campers will thrive in this position.
Responsibilities
- Plan, lead, and assist campers in safe programming that teaches leadership and life skills.
- Oversee CIT assignments, programming, instruction, and evaluation.
- Participate in traditional summer camp programming, including aquatics, outdoor living skills, arts, trips, team building, and archery.
- Assist with daily activities and supervision, providing coverage and support for unit staff to supervise campers in living units and daily activities.
- Support new staff members and international staff through training, observations, and check-ins.
Working Conditions/Environment
- Non-traditional work hours are expected, with compensatory days off provided for each day worked between sessions while CIT programs are running.
- Daily exposure to various weather conditions, plants, and animals.
- Daily swimming, boating, and life guarding in lake water.
- Walking/hiking several miles daily, at various grades, elevations, and on uneven terrain.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, AED, Waterfront Life Guarding, and Youth Mental Health First Aid is required.
- Previous experience in childcare or camp settings, as well as customer service and supervisory roles, is preferred.
- A minimum of 6 months to 1 year of higher education or employment is desired.
