Entry-Level Opportunity

Railserve is a premier provider of in-plant rail switching, transloading, and material handling services, operating across numerous locations in North America. We utilize our own locomotives and skilled personnel to safely transport railcars within industrial and manufacturing facilities. Key Responsibilities

This role involves operating electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives, interpreting train orders, signals, and regulations, and ensuring the timely and accurate switching and placement of railcars.

Primary Duties Include:

  • Inspecting locomotives prior to operation to confirm the availability of necessary supplies.
  • Receiving operational signals and controlling locomotive movements using throttle and airbrakes.
  • Interpreting train orders and signals while adhering to safety regulations and operational procedures.
  • Assisting in the training of new team members.
  • Monitoring tracks for potential obstructions.
  • Documenting incidents, unscheduled stops, or delays.
  • Lubricating locomotive components as required.
  • Safely handling train equipment using manual or automatic braking systems.
  • Operating hand or ground throw switches, derails, and gates.
  • Controlling equipment movement via radio and visual signals.
  • Applying and releasing hand brakes to secure or reposition equipment.
  • Managing air hoses, wheel chocks, and the coupling and uncoupling of railcars.
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must be able to lift and/or move heavy objects. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • Moderate to heavy physical effort is involved, including lifting and carrying equipment.
  • Climbing, walking, and balancing on top of railcars is required.
