Maintenance Facility Mechanic Job Description

Voyant Beauty is seeking a skilled Maintenance Facility Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our tank farm facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Unload Solvent Tanker Trucks: Safely unload solvent tanker trucks in accordance with established Work Instructions (WIs).
  2. Unload Solvent and Propellant Rail Cars: Unload solvent and propellant rail cars in accordance with WIs.
  3. Verify Material Receipts: Verify material receipts for railcars and tank trucks, reporting any inconsistencies to the inventory clerk.
  4. Assist Propellant Tanker Truck Driver: Assist the propellant tanker truck driver in unloading propellant into propellant tanks in accordance with WIs.
  5. Operate Equipment: Hook up and use pumps, filters, and hoses for chemical and waste transfer on a daily basis.
  6. Collect Samples: Collect chemical and propellant samples and bring them to the lab for incoming inspection/testing.
  7. Record Data: Record data from scales, meters, and gauges in the tank farm area and send out an inventory report on a daily basis.
  8. Report Issues: Report any tank level gauge or other problems with pumps or tanks to the facility maintenance department.
  9. Prepare Tank Farm: Prepare the tank farm for long weekend shutdown/startup.
  10. Maintain Solvent Tanks: Keep solvent tanks full at all times to ensure the compounding department can carry out their operations without interruption.
  11. Maintain Equipment: Work with facility maintenance mechanics to maintain tank farm equipment, pumps, storage tanks, and piping in good operating condition.
  12. Complete Paperwork: Complete all necessary paperwork as established for the work being performed.
  13. Participate in Other Duties: Participate in other duties as may be assigned by the department supervisor or manager.
Qualification Standards:
  1. Education: High school diploma or higher level of education.
  2. Communication Skills: Able to effectively communicate with fellow personnel verbally and in writing through emails, etc.
  3. Training: Complete training on all relevant SOPs and WIs within 90 days of taking on the position.
  4. Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and understand English and have basic arithmetic skills (proficiency test required) with the ability to do unit conversion.
  5. Prior Experience: Prior industrial experience in tank farm operations is desirable.
  6. SDS Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret SDS.
Other Requirements:
  1. PPE: Use all required PPE at all times.
  2. OSHA Haz Com Training: Complete OSHA Haz Com Training.
  3. RCRA Training: Complete RCRA hazardous waste handling, SPCC, and SWPPP training.
  4. GMP Training: Complete GMP training and follow applicable SOPs.
  5. Housekeeping: Maintain good housekeeping in the tank farm area at all times.
  6. Storm Drain Protection: Protect all storm drains in the tank farm from chemical contaminants.
  7. Safety Requirements: Observe all safety requirements and report any unsafe conditions to facility maintenance and/or the safety manager or head of engineering as needed.
  8. Emergency Response: Act as a guide for the Local Emergency Planning Committee in case of non-incidental emergency spills in the tank farm and compounding area.
  9. Forklift Operation: Operate a forklift truck as a certified driver.
  10. Tank Farm Shutdown: Operate the tank farm emergency shutdown system as needed.
  11. Spill Response: Respond to and clean up incidental spills in accordance with Local, State, and Federal regulations.
  12. Tool Operation: Know how to use small hand tools.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Lifting: Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and roll up to 440 lbs using a pallet truck and other equipment.
  2. Standing: Ability to stand outside for prolonged periods of time.
  3. Industrial Environment: Ability to work in an industrial environment.
