JOB TITLE: Radiology Technician PRN

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Radiology Technician is responsible for conducting fluoroscopic procedures for patients across all age demographics, adhering to established professional radiology practice standards. This role encompasses all aspects of imaging patient care, including file management, clerical tasks, physician support, and other duties essential for optimal patient outcomes in the outpatient surgical environment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Physician/Chief of the Medical Facility.

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Under supervision, may instruct and prepare patients for radiologic examinations;
  • Assess and determine the appropriate anatomical positioning and apply radiation protection measures;
  • Prepare patients by explaining procedures and removing non-compliant items such as jewelry;
  • Position patients accurately for effective radiographic imaging;
  • Place x-ray film correctly and execute exposures, followed by film development;
  • Operate both stationary and portable radiologic equipment to capture images for diagnostic purposes;
  • Produce, develop, and maintain x-ray films for medical evaluation;
  • Prepare processing solutions;
  • Assist in fluoroscopic procedures and document unusual cases through clinical photography;
  • Maintain equipment and work areas;
  • Monitor patient conditions throughout procedures;
  • Utilize radiation protection devices to minimize exposure;
  • Measure anatomical thickness and adjust machine settings for optimal imaging quality;
  • Maintain accurate records and files;
  • Generate reports as necessary and perform related tasks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Proficient understanding of contemporary radiologic technology and methodologies; knowledge of human anatomy; familiarity with standardized clinical radiologic procedures; comprehensive awareness of radiologic safety protocols; adeptness in operating and maintaining radiologic equipment; and managing inventory of supplies.

Strong communication skills essential for effective job performance; capability to administer emergency care; proficiency in preparing solutions for film processing; ability to maintain organized records and compile reports; follow instructions accurately; assess situations effectively and take appropriate actions; and foster collaborative relationships with colleagues.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current certification as a Radiologic Technologist in diagnostic radiology from the relevant state health department.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in radiologic techniques under a certified medical radiologist, or completion of a two-year accredited radiologic technology program.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient in email systems like Microsoft Outlook for communication.
  • Familiarity with Word and Excel for document creation and data management.
  • Experience with medical software systems for data entry and review preferred.

  • Capacity to thrive in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure.
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary.
  • Capability to multitask while ensuring attention to detail.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to remain on feet for extended periods and assist patients as needed.
  • Requires a combination of sitting and standing typical of an office setting.
  • Ability to focus for extended periods.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in using a computer keyboard and viewing screens.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical office environment with significant telephone communication. Most positions are within a climate-controlled setting during standard business hours, with occasional evening or weekend shifts.
