Job Overview

The Patient Access Representative (Rep) plays a crucial role in the Patient Access Services (PAS) framework. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities essential for both outpatient and inpatient registration processes.


Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.
  • Certification in all Patient Access Services functions is required within the first year of employment.

Skills and Experience:
  • Typing proficiency of 25-30 words per minute and successful completion of a clerical examination.
  • Prior experience in hospital admissions, business office, or physician's office is preferred.

Knowledge Requirements:
Upon completion of training, the individual must successfully pass internal certification exams to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the Patient Access Services Department's competencies.

Safety Considerations:

This position is classified as NOT safety sensitive. Unity Health prioritizes the health and safety of all patients and staff. Associates engaged in the use of medical marijuana, even with a valid medical card, are not eligible for this role.


Role Responsibilities:
The PAS Rep is responsible for a range of functions, including but not limited to:
  • Outpatient and inpatient registration
  • Hospital cashiering and insurance verification
  • Ensuring patients meet financial requirements
  • Providing information to patients, families, and hospital users
  • Facilitating effective communication to enhance patient flow and service delivery
  • Delivering exceptional patient-focused customer service

Physical Demands:

The role requires:

  • Sitting for 3-4 hours
  • Standing for 3-4 hours
  • Walking for 3-4 hours
  • Moderate lifting of 20-25 pounds, 1-10 times daily
  • Frequent fine motor skills and manual dexterity for computer use
