Job Overview
The Physics Department at Miami University is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Director of Instructional Laboratories. This position encompasses the oversight, upkeep, and innovation of equipment utilized in instructional laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise both undergraduate and graduate students in collaboration with faculty members.
- Engage in teamwork with on-campus machinists to ensure effective lab operations.
- Perform physical tasks as required by the role.
- Manage, maintain, and enhance apparatus for teaching laboratories.
- Support instructional labs catering to non-science majors and various physics courses.
Essential Qualifications:
Required: A Bachelor's degree in physics or a related discipline; possess a solid understanding of physics principles.
Preference may be given to candidates with a Master's degree or substantial relevant experience; familiarity with commercial instructional lab equipment, soldering, electronics, computer-aided design, mechanical drawings, 3D printing, and database management (e.g., Filemaker) is advantageous. Strong communication skills, teaching experience, adaptability, enthusiasm, and the ability to collaborate effectively are essential, along with excellent time management and organizational capabilities.
