Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Director of Industry Segment.
Key Responsibilities
The Market Development Manager will engage closely with leading entities in the transportation, robotics, and industrial OEM sectors across the US, fostering long-term relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring ABB's European products are recognized as the preferred choice, and enhancing business profitability. This role will also serve as a subject matter expert, concentrating on segment initiatives and guiding a team of business development managers. The Market Development Manager will dedicate significant time to customer visits to comprehend applications and customer requirements. Leadership and mentorship of a business development team, along with extended indirect teams across sales, product management, marketing, and support functions, will be vital for success. This position is open to remote candidates throughout the US. The role may involve up to 50% travel (primarily domestic, with some international travel) to meet sales and customer demands. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Identifying key decision-makers within the market segment, which may include OEMs, end users, harness manufacturers, and engineering specification firms, while collaborating with relevant internal teams such as Sales, Marketing, and Product Management to ensure alignment and efficiency in executing the commercial strategy.
- Achieving sales targets and budgets within the market segment through the development and implementation of strategic plans.
- Leading, motivating, and supporting a team of business development managers to drive growth in the assigned market segment.
- Establishing prioritized customer conversion targets and managing follow-ups to ensure objectives are met. Participating in customer visits, gathering Voice of Customer (VOC) feedback, and providing insights to sales and product marketing regarding go-to-market strategies, product development, sales enablement, and digital tools.
You will join and lead a dynamic, high-performing team with several direct reports.
Qualifications
- BS/BA in business, marketing, engineering, or related fields is required.
- 10-12 years of experience in sales, marketing, product management, or product marketing within the transportation or industrial OEM sectors.
- Ability to understand industry-specific differences in product performance requirements concerning the product portfolio.
- Preferred experience in customer relations through service, visits, and relationship management.
- Candidates must possess work authorization allowing them to work for ABB in the US.
ABB Installation Products Division (formerly Thomas & Betts) focuses on managing the connection, protection, and distribution of electrical power from source to socket.
