Job Overview

The Lead Systems Architect plays a pivotal role in the conception and execution of intricate systems by collaborating across various functional areas to ensure that both performance and design specifications are achieved. This position involves working alongside diverse teams, including software engineers, hardware specialists, and other technical experts, to guarantee that the organization’s offerings align with client expectations and industry benchmarks. A profound understanding of system specifications, performance metrics, requirement allocation, and trade analysis in the context of defense systems is essential. Additionally, this role demands exceptional leadership capabilities to harmonize efforts across multiple departments and teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and sustain sophisticated system architectures for extensive projects and intricate hardware configurations.
  • Facilitate technical comprehension and requirements across the integrated product team.
  • Lead integrated product team discussions.
  • Create system and subsystem interface control documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify and address system challenges and enhance system performance.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including system schematics, user guides, and standard operating procedures.
  • Oversee project planning and execution, encompassing resource distribution, risk evaluation, and project timelines.
  • Keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies in systems engineering and pinpoint opportunities for their integration within the organization.
  • Manage requirements traceability and progression throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Establish verification methodologies and requirements within the appropriate segments of the system V diagram.
  • Provide regular updates on system development progress concerning requirements fulfillment.
  • Distribute requirements to systems and subsystems and coordinate with engineering teams.
  • Assess system performance thresholds and offer guidance.
  • Act as the primary contact for system integration and validation.
  • Contribute to model development and simulation analysis.
  • Effectively review and interpret client specifications.
  • Identify, evaluate, and rectify system design vulnerabilities, exploring alternative solutions.
  • Influence the development of future products by contributing to the architectural framework utilized across various products or systems.
  • Address complex issues where analysis of situations or data necessitates the evaluation of intangible factors.
  • Exercise discretion in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to achieve results.
  • Operate independently with minimal supervision.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Standard Responsibilities:

Qualifications:
  • Experience in designing, integrating, and testing Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance systems, including:
  • LOS and BLOS Communication (Military Radios, Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks, and SATCOM)
  • Networking
  • Mission Management Systems
  • Position, Navigation, and Timing Systems (Global Navigation Satellite Systems and Inertial Navigation Systems)
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools.
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, etc.).
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and modeling tools (e.g., SysML, DoDAF, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient project management skills, with the ability to lead complex projects from conception through execution.
  • Understanding of industry standards and best practices for systems engineering, including ITIL, ISO, and NIST.
  • Experience managing requirements traceability and evolution throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with electronics and systems related to navigation, image collection, and analysis.
  • Experience in developing systems test plans, procedures, and reports, as well as reviewing and interpreting specifications.
  • Ability to write Systems Safety protocols and ensure personnel safety during field evaluations.

Education/Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in systems engineering is preferred.

Experience:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in systems engineering, focusing on the design, development, and maintenance of complex systems for defense applications.

Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to sit and reach to utilize computers and other office equipment.

Security Clearance:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD clearance; U.S. Citizenship is required.
