The Behavior Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the creation, oversight, coordination, and evaluation of tailored behavior programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. This position requires a positive, proactive, and innovative mindset towards behavior support, emphasizing skill enhancement, individual rights, and overall quality of life. The specialist will cultivate essential relationships with consumers, families, staff, professionals, and community members to promote collaboration and a shared commitment to the welfare of those we serve.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure compliance with the current regulations and standards set forth by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities and Title XIX Medical Regulations regarding behavior, programming, individual rights, and behavior medications.
- Stay informed about emerging programming advancements in behavior support for individuals with developmental disabilities and work to incorporate these new methodologies into daily practices and agency culture.
- Support and supervise direct care and professional staff in the execution and documentation of behavior programs, collaborating closely with the QIDP and Support Supervisor/Manager.
- Provide ongoing monitoring and oversight of designated behavior programs, identifying trends and inconsistencies, and making necessary adjustments to the programs.
- Be prepared to fulfill all essential duties to ensure the complete and continuous execution of designated behavior plans.
- Evaluate and analyze behaviors to formulate plans, procedures, strategies, or supports.
- Consult with other professionals (Counselors, Psychiatrists, Doctors, etc.) as necessary regarding individual needs, sharing relevant information, program progress, and suitable recommendations.
- Compile monthly data on active behavior plans, reviewing the information and making necessary changes and recommendations.
- Present findings to the Behavior Support Committee (BSC) regarding program progress and implement the BSC's recommendations in a timely and professional manner.
- Monitor metrics to ensure ongoing improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess one of the following:
- A valid license from the Ohio Board of Psychology;
- A valid license from the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board;
- A valid physician license from the State Medical Board of Ohio; or
- A bachelor's or graduate-level degree from an accredited institution with at least three years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience in developing and/or implementing behavioral support and/or risk reduction strategies or plans.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Ability to extract relevant information from verbal accounts (active listening) is required.
- Must be capable of working independently and as part of a team, making sound decisions based on analysis, judgment, and experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is necessary.
