Job Summary

Volt is seeking an experienced Electrical Test Engineer to join our team in supporting the Reactor program. As an Electrical Test Engineer, you will be responsible for performing testing activities to support the development of test plans and specifications, executing test activities, and analyzing test data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement test plans and specifications for molten salt systems and components.
  • Execute testing activities and analyze test data to ensure safe operation and successful gathering of high-quality data.
  • Design and develop instrumentation required for molten salt systems.
  • Develop and program control systems for associated tests and experiments.
  • Implement test requirements, plans, specifications, and procedures for testing activities.
  • Assist with fabrication and assembly of system testing hardware.
  • Conduct testing activities in laboratories to ensure safe operation and successful gathering of high-quality data.
  • Perform scientific analysis on test data and generate test reports to document new knowledge related to molten salt reactors.
  • Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality design and identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and safe work environment for testing and laboratory activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear, or Materials Science Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in research with exotic fluids, especially at temperatures above 400°C.
  • Experience with hands-on, ground-up design, fabrication, operation, and scientific analysis of first-of-a-kind equipment.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD for two- and three-dimensional experimental design.
  • Experience with programming, troubleshooting, and operating DAQ/PLC/SCADA systems and software.
  • Experience with data acquisition and controls for complex engineering systems with inputs/outputs (I/O) from varied instruments and devices.
  • Field experience in start-up/commissioning, troubleshooting, diagnostics, testing, and calibration of electrical/I&C systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical design, wiring, and fabrication per electrical codes and regulations.
  • Track record of working safely with laboratory chemicals and in hazardous physical conditions.
  • Familiarity with fabrication, joining, and cladding processes and limitations.
  • Experience with scripting and automation of analysis tools.
  • Ability to participate in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists.
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and creative thinking.
