About the Role: The Construction Technician-Line Worker plays a vital role in the installation, repair, and upkeep of poles, cables, and conduits. Responsibilities include:

  • Installing aerial and buried cables along with necessary hardware to facilitate project completion.
  • Running fiber optic, copper, and other essential cables within the telecommunications sector, both aerially and underground.
  • Ensuring crew safety by directing procedures related to road and manhole safety, as well as participating in safety meetings.
  • Maintaining material inventory and conducting DOT vehicle inspections.
  • Operating heavy machinery and performing additional tasks as assigned, including splicing copper and fiber cables.

This position requires flexibility, including work on weekends, holidays, standby, and unscheduled hours, with potential travel exceeding 50% of the year based on business needs. It is classified as a safety-sensitive role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, repair, and maintain utility poles and cables.
  • Set up services for customers by installing, connecting, testing, or adjusting equipment as needed.
  • Measure signal strength at utility poles using electronic testing equipment.
  • Inspect and test lines or cables, documenting and analyzing results to identify faults or malfunctions.
  • Access specific areas to string lines or install terminal boxes and auxiliary equipment using bucket trucks or by climbing.
  • String cables between structures and maintain proper tension using various tools.
  • Lay underground cables directly in trenches or through conduits as required.
  • Utilize a range of construction equipment to complete installations.
  • Understand and interpret staking sheets and blueprints.
  • Adhere to industry standards and safety procedures while performing work.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in outside plant construction, including installation and maintenance of poles and cables.
  • Certification in pole climbing and ability to lift/push/pull up to 75 pounds.
  • Capability to work in various weather conditions and confined spaces.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a CDL.
  • Exceptional time-management skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with OSHA 10 Hour Safety Course and pole climbing certifications.
  • Proficiency in operating various construction equipment.
