Phlebotomist - PT Day Shift (Sun-Thurs 4am -8am)

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients in various inpatient, outpatient, and offsite areas, following established protocols to ensure proper sample collection and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities- Collect blood specimens from patients through venipuncture, capillary puncture techniques, and/or making an incision on the patient's arm.
- Provide phlebotomy services to patients in various settings, following physician orders.
- Enter data concerning blood specimens into a computer database, maintain appointment schedules, and log patients seen and tests obtained.
- Record results of patients' tests and file them appropriately, keeping work-related statistics and performing related clerical duties.
- Supervise, teach, and provide support to medical technology students in phlebotomy theories and techniques.
- Attend and/or present related hospital in-service programs.
- Maintain proper inventory of supplies and materials needed for daily blood specimen collection.
- Participate in the overall function of the laboratory by assuming occasional substitution to other shifts or working prolonged shifts.
- High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of experience as a Phlebotomist or a certificate in Phlebotomy from a recognized college, school, training program, hospital, healthcare facility, or the Armed Services.
- Prior hospital/lab experience and basic understanding of medical laboratory technology are preferred.
Stony Brook Medicine offers a competitive salary range of $39,215 per year, prorated by part-time hours. Additionally, some positions offer annual supplemental pay, such as geographic pay. Our total compensation package includes generous leave, health plans, and a state pension that add to your bottom line.
As a Stony Brook Medicine employee, you will be part of a smoke-free environment and may be required to wear respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. This position may be designated as essential, requiring you to remain at your work location or report to work during institutional emergencies.
Please note that prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet certain requirements, including successfully completing a pre-employment physical examination, obtaining medical clearance, and completing electronic reference checks.
