Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembler to join our team at Serco North America. As a Mechanical Assembler, you will be responsible for fabricating and assembling various electromechanical and electronic assemblies, following blueprints, guidelines, and/or diagrams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow established procedures and guidelines to fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
  • Perform work with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Work on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations in an area that is somewhat uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation, and the like.
Requirements
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening.
  • The ability to obtain a Firewatch and Cable Installer certification.
  • 2 years of Shipboard experience in a related field.
  • A combination of experience in the following areas:
    • Ability to bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipment.
    • Drill holes (with supervision).
    • Operate light machinery/equipment (with training).
    • Position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections.
    • Ability to follow directions of senior employees.
    • Carry equipment & clean spaces.
    • Remove lagging & paint.
    • The ability to Identify safety concerns in immediate work environment.
    • Sound technical knowledge base of discipline's standard concepts, principles, and techniques.
  • The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
  • The ability and willing to travel up to 25% to various work sites.
  • The ability to work independently, in a team environment, and under stressful conditions with tight deadlines.
  • The ability to relocate and/or work in Newport News, VA.
Additional Desired Experience and Skills
  • An active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • An OSHA Certification.
