Job Summary

Serco is seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembler to join our team in Newport News, Virginia. As a Mechanical Assembler, you will be responsible for fabricating and assembling various electromechanical and electronic assemblies, ensuring the highest level of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow blueprints, guidelines, and/or diagrams to fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies.
  • Perform work with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Work on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations, adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
Requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active secret clearance.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening.
  • Ability to obtain a Firewatch and cable installer certification.
  • Shipboard experience.
  • A combination of experience in the following areas: ability to bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipment, drill holes (with supervision), operate light machinery/equipment (with training), position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe and conduit sections, ability to follow directions of senior employees, carry equipment and clean spaces, remove lagging and paint, ability to identify safety concerns in the immediate work environment, and sound technical knowledge base of discipline's standard concepts, principles, and techniques.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to various work sites.
  • Ability to work independently, in a team environment, and under stressful conditions with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to relocate and/or work in Newport News, VA.
