About The Arc Prince George's County:
The Arc Prince George's County is dedicated to supporting over 600 individuals with disabilities through a range of programs and services. Our focus areas include community living, family and personal support, employment services, and day programs, all aimed at fostering community involvement and inclusion.
Role Summary:
The Arc is in search of a Life & Community Advocate who will provide comprehensive, person-centered support and services to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role emphasizes personal choice and involves advocating for individuals, guiding them in expressing their preferences, developing daily living skills, and ensuring their health and safety within a supportive community environment.
Core Responsibilities:
- Advocacy: Support individuals in articulating their choices, aspirations, and rights.
- Communication: Engage actively with individuals using their preferred communication methods, collaborating with their support networks.
- Relationship Building: Foster opportunities for individuals to create friendships and meaningful connections in an inclusive setting.
Daily Activities:
Assist individuals in achieving their desired lifestyles and enhancing their independence and community engagement. Responsibilities include:
- Facilitating person-centered planning processes.
- Transporting and supervising individuals during daily activities and community experiences.
- Completing necessary documentation and follow-up records.
Essential Functions:
Preparation for Change:
- Plan and prepare individuals for transitions in advance.
- Introduce individuals to activities aligned with their interests.
- Identify and teach essential skills for success in various environments.
Community Integration:
- Assist individuals in identifying and planning community experiences tailored to their interests.
- Implement person-centered plans to support community involvement.
- Accompany individuals to community activities, ensuring safety and engagement.
Personal Care:
- Support individuals in daily living activities.
- Maintain a safe and respectful environment.
- Monitor health and safety, responding to emergencies as needed.
Documentation and Communication:
- Accurately document participation in activities and behavior programs.
- Engage in mandatory meetings and training sessions.
- Collaborate with team members to support the agency's mission.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work collaboratively with individuals and team members.
