Operating Room Overview:
Number of Operating Rooms: 5
Service Areas:
Burn, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Adult Dental, Pulmonary, and Gastrointestinal Services.
Operational Hours:
Operating Room hours are from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a block schedule.
This position is full-time, requiring 40 hours per week, with no night shifts, weekends, or recognized holidays.
Incentives for Experienced Professionals:
For Surgical Technologists with a minimum of one year of experience, this role qualifies for our incentive program, which includes a sign-on bonus and a commitment incentive.
Relocation Assistance:
Eligible for up to $10,000 in relocation support based on location.
Position Summary:
The Advanced Surgical Technician operates under the guidance of a surgeon and registered nurse to ensure the safe and effective execution of surgical procedures. This role is crucial in maintaining a secure operating room environment, ensuring equipment functionality, and maximizing patient safety throughout the surgical process. Surgical Technologists are skilled in sterile and aseptic techniques, combining their knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures to assist in invasive therapeutic and diagnostic tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
In addition to the duties of a Level I Surgical Technologist, the following responsibilities are expected:
- Execute technical skills across various operating room specialties, adhering to established standards.
- Maintain, assemble, and sterilize specialty instruments appropriately.
- Implement aseptic techniques and proactively address contamination issues.
- Conduct surgical counts and follow protocols for discrepancies.
- Establish and uphold a sterile field, ensuring the team maintains a sterile environment.
- Assist in the identification, preparation, and labeling of surgical specimens.
- Participate in the planning and organization of instruments and supplies for optimal accessibility.
- Support the surgeon by demonstrating an understanding of relevant anatomical considerations.
- Adapt scrubbing procedures based on situational needs and communicate effectively with the surgical team.
- Manage inventory and storage of supplies under the direction of Surgical Services leadership.
- Act as a mentor for new hires and peers, contributing to their training and evaluation.
- Report defective instruments and assist with restocking operating rooms.
- Support the registered nurse during the intraoperative phase.
- Engage in data collection for research initiatives under RN supervision.
- Operate complex equipment in the operating room, troubleshooting as necessary.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program, or a Military Training Program in Surgical Technology.
Licensure/Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) certification required.
Experience:
Minimum of three years of professional experience in a surgical setting.
Skills and Abilities:
Successful completion of service-specific competencies, strong communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, and the capacity to function effectively as a mentor and team player.
