Position Overview:
As a Financial Counselor, you will engage in comprehensive financial advisory services, aiding patients with their MassHealth applications, reviewing necessary documentation, and addressing financial inquiries. Your role will also involve generating cost estimates for self-pay and insured patients, while ensuring timely collection of copays and deductibles. You will utilize various systems including EPIC, MMIS, and the Mass Health Portal to facilitate these processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough reviews and outreach to patients identified as Self Pay, Partial HSN, Non-Contracted Payer, and Welfare Pending, ensuring insurance coverage is verified and payments are secured.
  • Comfortably interact with patients in diverse settings, including Emergency Departments and Inpatient Floors.
  • Address patient billing inquiries, assist with payment arrangements, and collaborate with customer service to resolve disputes.
  • Process payments for self-pay portions of hospital bills, issuing receipts and ensuring accurate account crediting.
  • Utilize electronic tools for processing Patient Credit Card payments efficiently.
  • Assist with cashiering tasks, including copay reconciliation and daily deposit preparation.
  • Maintain regular communication with hospital departments regarding patient billing and insurance information.
  • Document insurance coverage details accurately in the Epic Registration System.
  • Support patients in completing MassHealth applications and ensure timely submission of required documentation.
  • Utilize online resources for insurance verification and assist patients with supplemental coverage applications.
  • Prepare Patient Estimate Letters for cosmetic procedures, ensuring payment collection prior to service delivery.
  • Manage call center responsibilities, addressing inquiries professionally and directing cases as needed.
  • Provide timely cost estimates for various procedures, discussing financial responsibilities with patients.
  • Stay informed on state health regulations and complete necessary training to maintain compliance.
  • Perform clerical duties, including record maintenance and operation of office equipment.
  • Undertake additional related tasks as required.
Qualifications:
Required: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience and a high school diploma or equivalent, complemented by job-related training. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with analytical abilities and attention to detail.

Preferred: Certification as an Application Counselor.
