We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to join our Construction team at Liberty Mutual Insurance. Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and assess construction risks, including financial standing, operational strategy, and industry trends, to determine whether to proceed with an account and under what terms and conditions.
- Develop and maintain effective business relationships with assigned agents and brokers to attract, develop, and retain profitable business in your assigned territory.
- Perform hazard analyses, combining knowledge and experience with available information on a prospect's or renewal's operations and industry, and collaborate with experienced underwriters and other departments to evaluate potential exposure to loss.
- Apply understanding of insurance with identified hazards to assess customer or broker requests and determine acceptable coverage grants by line of business that address critical insurance and service needs.
- Develop prices for each coverage and rating plan option under consideration, meeting or exceeding target returns, and have accountability and ownership of account pricing recommendations.
- Recommend program structures, including coverage, limits/retention, rating plan/pricing, and billing combinations, achieving desired Business Unit goals, including long-term profitability.
- Communicate and collaborate across the organization to provide solutions and recommendations and achieve organizational success.
- Highly knowledgeable and disciplined underwriter with experience managing construction risks and a track record of growing a book of business that performs well over the long term.
- Excellent knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, contracts, and underwriting guidelines, as normally acquired, and a related bachelor's degree, eight to ten years of commercial lines underwriting experience preferred.
- Ability to make good business decisions based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
- Strong communication and influencing skills to build immediate credibility, both internally and externally, and an ability to present effectively to a wide range of audiences.
- Ability to negotiate skillfully in tough situations, gain trust of others, and have a good sense of timing.
- Insurance-specific designations (CPCU, CRIS) desired.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree required.
