Short Description

The Advanced Practice Nurse is accountable for advanced nursing functions within a specific clinical area. Collaborating with other healthcare team members, this role enhances nursing practices and fosters positive patient outcomes. Key responsibilities encompass clinical practice, patient and staff education, and research initiatives. The Advanced Practice Nurse is a vital member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team across inpatient, outpatient, and community environments.
Overview

Job Description: Advanced Practice Provider (APP), Cooper University Health Care

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed and registered professional who has completed specialized graduate or doctoral education and is nationally certified to deliver health and medical services to diverse populations in various settings.

Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Functions
The Advanced Practice Nurse operates within the parameters established by the state nursing practice act, the delineation of privileges defined by the practice environment, and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics. The advanced practice nurse employs scientific methodologies and national care standards as a framework for managing patient care.
As licensed independent practitioners, APPs work autonomously and/or in collaboration with a supervising physician and other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients' health concerns.
The APP conducts patient histories and physical examinations to establish a working differential diagnosis and develop a tailored care plan.
Services provided include, but are not limited to, ordering, performing, supervising, and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, as well as prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies.
The APP may implement therapeutic measures as appropriate and provide education and counseling to individuals, families, and groups.
For rare or unstable conditions, the APP will formulate diagnoses in collaboration with their supervising physician and may refer to a specialist or engage in joint management and treatment.
In addition to diagnosing and managing acute and chronic conditions, APPs emphasize health promotion and disease prevention.
APPs also serve as healthcare researchers, professional educators, interdisciplinary consultants, and patient advocates.
Prescribing Medications
Prescriptions may be issued by the APP when clinically warranted, in accordance with current APP prescribing guidelines and relevant state and federal regulations. Proper documentation of prescribed medications and authorized refills will be maintained in the patient's record.
Continuing Education
The APP will remain informed about medical trends and deliver evidence-based practice by fulfilling the continuing education requirements mandated by certifying organizations.
The autonomous nature of the APP necessitates accountability for healthcare outcomes. Ensuring the highest quality of care requires national certification, periodic peer review, clinical outcome evaluations, adherence to ethical practice standards, evidence of ongoing professional development, and maintenance of clinical competencies.
