Role Description

Job Title: Advanced Practice Provider (APP), Cooper University Health Care

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed and registered professional who has completed specialized graduate or doctoral education and is nationally certified to deliver healthcare services to diverse populations in various settings.

Key Responsibilities of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP)

• The Advanced Practice Nurse operates within the defined scope of practice as established by state regulations, practice setting privileges, and the American Nurses' Association Code of Ethics. Utilizing scientific methodologies and national care standards, the advanced practice nurse manages patient care effectively.

• As licensed independent practitioners, APPs work autonomously and/or in collaboration with supervising physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients' health needs.

• The APP conducts comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations to establish differential diagnoses and formulate individualized care plans.

• Services provided include ordering, performing, supervising, and interpreting diagnostic tests, as well as prescribing pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.

• The APP may implement therapeutic interventions as necessary and offer education and counseling to individuals, families, and groups.

• For complex or unstable conditions, the APP collaborates with supervising physicians to formulate diagnoses and may refer patients to specialists or engage in joint management.

• In addition to managing acute and chronic conditions, APPs emphasize health promotion and disease prevention.

• APPs also serve as healthcare researchers, educators, interdisciplinary consultants, and advocates for patients.

Prescribing Authority

• The APP is authorized to prescribe medications when clinically appropriate, adhering to current APP prescribing guidelines and state and federal regulations. Documentation of prescribed medications and authorized refills will be maintained in the patient's medical record.
Continuing Education

• The APP is expected to remain informed about medical advancements and provide evidence-based care by fulfilling continuing education requirements set by certifying organizations.
