Short Description

The Advanced Practice Nurse is responsible for delivering advanced nursing care within a specialized clinical area. Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, this role enhances nursing practices and fosters positive patient outcomes. Key responsibilities encompass clinical practice, education for staff and patients, and involvement in research initiatives. The Advanced Practice Nurse is a vital member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team across inpatient, outpatient, and community environments.

Job Description: Advanced Practice Provider (APP), Cooper University Health Care

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed and registered professional who has completed advanced graduate or doctoral education and is nationally certified to deliver health and medical services to diverse populations in various settings.

Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Functions
The Advanced Practice Nurse operates within the scope of practice as defined by state regulations, the delineation of privileges established by the practice environment, and the ethical guidelines set forth by the American Nurses Association. The Advanced Practice Nurse employs scientific methodologies and national care standards as a framework for patient management.
As licensed independent practitioners, APPs work autonomously and/or in collaboration with supervising physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patient health concerns.
The APP conducts comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations to establish differential diagnoses and develop tailored care plans.
Services rendered include, but are not limited to, ordering, performing, supervising, and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, as well as prescribing pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies.
The APP may also provide therapeutic interventions as appropriate and offer education and counseling to individuals, families, and groups.
For complex or unstable conditions, the APP will formulate diagnoses in collaboration with their supervising physician and may refer to specialists or engage in joint management with their supervising physician.
In addition to diagnosing and managing acute and chronic conditions, APPs emphasize health promotion and disease prevention.
APPs also serve as healthcare researchers, professional educators, interdisciplinary consultants, and advocates for patients.
Prescribing Medications
The APP may prescribe medications when clinically indicated, adhering to current APP prescribing guidelines and relevant state and federal regulations. Accurate documentation of prescribed medications and authorized refills will be maintained in the patient's medical record.
Continuing Education
The APP will remain updated on medical trends and deliver evidence-based care by fulfilling the continuing education requirements mandated by certifying organizations.
The independent nature of the APP entails accountability for healthcare outcomes. Ensuring the highest quality of care necessitates national certification, periodic peer reviews, clinical outcome evaluations, adherence to ethical practice standards, and ongoing professional development.

Education Requirements

Education: A Master's Degree in Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required, along with a current NJ Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) or Physician Assistant License.

License/Certification Requirements

Certifications Required: Board Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Certification, Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Special Requirements

Schedule Days/Hours: Full Time (40 hours weekly) with rotating shifts.
