Job Description

Clinical Laboratory Technician


Cayuga Health System is committed to delivering high-quality healthcare services to our community. We are seeking a skilled Clinical Laboratory Technician to join our team of dedicated professionals.


A Clinical Laboratory Technician is responsible for testing and analyzing blood and other body substances to aid healthcare providers in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and test specimens, including proficiency testing and manual procedures, and report results according to protocol
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot moderately complex equipment
  • Utilize information systems to collect and interpret data
  • Perform and interpret quality control
  • Maintain a compliant environment, adhering to lab and hospital procedures, NYS, TJC, HIPAA standards, infection control, and safety guidelines
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities and maintain inter-and intra-departmental workflow by cooperating with others
  • Maintain adequate inventory and conserve resources
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
  • Be flexible in assuming additional responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

  • Education: Minimum of Associate's degree and Registered as a Medical Technician by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Licensure: Meets NYS Department of Health requirements and is currently licensed as a Clinical Lab Technician
  • Experience: Prior laboratory experience is preferred

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Problem-solving ability and attention to detail is preferred
  • Good written and oral communication skills preferred
  • Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes

Physical Requirements:

  • May require light lifting and carrying, including boxes, equipment, stooping, and kneeling, and may be required to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Repetitive use of hands (e.g., computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time is often necessary; must be physically able to operate automation used in the job
