Role Summary:
Under the guidance of the Director of Special Education and District Nurses, the Licensed Vocational Nurse will deliver direct clinical support to address the health requirements of students. This role involves documenting and maintaining essential health records in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, while providing care for students who are ill, medically fragile, or injured.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute tasks under the supervision of a school nurse, adhering to the standards of the LVN license.
- Administer medications, including necessary injections, in accordance with applicable laws and district policies.
- Collaborate with the school nurse to address the health needs of individual students, including those with chronic conditions.
- Provide medical treatment for students experiencing illness, injury, or medical emergencies during school hours.
- Perform specialized health care tasks, such as administering medications through various methods and monitoring student health conditions.
- Assist the school nurse with documentation and health screenings as needed.
- Respond promptly to emergencies involving student health and safety.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in health-related work areas.
- Support students with toileting needs in the health office.
- Conduct record-keeping and clerical duties to ensure accurate health file maintenance.
- Prepare necessary documentation under the supervision of the school nurse.
- Participate in IEP meetings as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge: Familiarity with excellent service standards, nursing procedures for medically fragile students, applicable laws and regulations, and health safety practices.
Skills: Ability to interpret non-verbal cues from students, maintain confidential records, communicate effectively, and establish positive working relationships.
Education and Experience:
Minimum of one year of experience working with medically fragile children in a structured environment is preferred. High School Diploma is required, along with completion of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing program.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a current California Vocational Nurse License in good standing, along with valid First Aid and CPR certification.
