About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Assistant - Family Shelter to join our team at The Salvation Army Eastern Territory. As a key member of our Buffalo Area Services, you will play a vital role in providing assistance to the homeless population in a residential facility.


This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families in need. As a Residential Assistant, you will be responsible for providing support and guidance to clients, ensuring their safety and security, and maintaining a clean and comfortable living environment.


Key Responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:


  • Distributing client supplies and ensuring they have access to essential items.
  • Preparing and serving meals, as well as maintaining a clean and hygienic dining area.
  • Assisting clients with daily tasks, such as laundry and cleaning, and providing emotional support when needed.
  • Monitoring the facility and reporting any maintenance or safety issues to the Shelter Director or Residence Manager.
  • Working closely with Shelter staff to ensure client program activities are implemented effectively.
  • Performing light maintenance work and custodial duties as assigned.
  • Conducting monitored drug and alcohol testing, as required.
  • Attending all staff meetings and training sessions, as directed.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:


  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to achieve and maintain CPR certification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, staff, and external partners.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays.
