Position Summary:
Oversees and directs the Construction Management functions at PPL Electric Utilities throughout the entire project lifecycle.

Accountable for ensuring that projects are effectively planned, designed, constructed, and commissioned in alignment with PPL Electric's established policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide field leadership and oversight for all contracted construction activities; ensuring the safe completion of the defined scope of work within budget, on schedule, and meeting the quality standards outlined in the contracts.
  • Manage or perform tasks necessary to successfully contract out PPL Electric work, including outage planning, permit acquisition, construction scope management, and contractor crew oversight.
  • Engage in the evaluation and awarding of construction proposals in collaboration with PPL Electric Sourcing; comprehend contract terms and conditions, and manage construction contractors accordingly. Review and authorize construction change orders for work outside the original scope, or modifications to the scope of work. Participate in claims disputes and resolution processes. Validate contractor invoices to ensure completed work aligns with billed amounts.
  • Conduct constructability assessments during the initial design and engineering phases of projects, including identifying site requirements, access routes, laydown areas, equipment specifications, cost estimates, outage planning, construction sequencing, risk evaluations, and scheduling.
  • Review deliverables from various departments such as Siting, Real Estate, Permitting, Procurement, and Engineering to ensure alignment with the construction plan for each project.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop and implement corrective measures when safety, schedule, scope, or cost impacts are anticipated or encountered.
  • Ensure that PPL Electric contractors possess approved work plans and fully comprehend the scope and requirements for their tasks. This includes conducting safety briefings, job walk-downs, and site assessments.
  • Supervise and facilitate contractor briefings in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Guarantee the completeness and quality of construction workmanship prior to accepting the final product, and manage the Construction Quality and Asset Commissioning functions of each project.
  • Provide regular updates on project status, feedback, and critical path items to the PPL Electric Construction Management, Engineering, and Project Management teams.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of industry best practices and applications relevant to construction at PPL Electric.
  • Willingness to travel within the PPL Electric service area, as this is a regionally based position.
  • In roles where driving is essential, compliance with safety regulations and monitoring adherence to labor laws is required.
  • May be assigned to emergency and storm response roles, which necessitate working outside of regular hours during critical situations.
  • The company reserves the right to determine the work location for this position, which may include on-site, remote, or a combination of both. Changes to the assigned work location may occur, and physical presence may be required for coordination with colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
  • At least two years of experience in construction, operations, or maintenance.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, work management, and job planning experience are essential.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, and interpersonal skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Project Management Professional (PMP), or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification.
  • Two years of experience as a construction or project manager within the power sector.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with critical-path-method scheduling tools and project budgeting, as well as industry investigation tools.
