Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for processing and testing specimens, reviewing and reporting lab results, and performing operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.

You will also provide direction to other laboratory staff, including medical laboratory technicians and technologists, and will be responsible for maintaining complete and up-to-date procedure manuals. Additionally, you will achieve ongoing compliance with regulatory agencies and will work in high-volume core laboratories, working in multiple departments/sections or multiple facilities within a market, as requested.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and test specimens
  • Review and report lab results
  • Perform operational duties, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment
  • Provide direction to other laboratory staff
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date procedure manuals
  • Achieve ongoing compliance with regulatory agencies

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent
  • Registered or registry eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS within 12 months of hire)
  • Ability to perform all duties as required of a Medical Technologist
  • Assists department management, in conjunction with human resources with corrective action and coaching of department employees
  • Ensures department employees possess the ability and knowledge to provide age-appropriate care as mandated by DMC and department policies
