Position Summary
The Regional Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing the cost efficiency and operational performance of Owens & Minor's transportation network within designated regions. This role involves managing relationships with dedicated contract carriage partners to ensure they meet customer expectations and achieve key performance indicators. The manager collaborates with Area and Distribution Center leadership to formulate and execute transportation strategies, including fleet management, route optimization, carrier selection, and performance metrics implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the overall cost and operational efficiency of the dedicated fleet in the assigned region, ensuring optimal equipment usage and adherence to customer requirements.
- Develop a transportation strategy aimed at reducing delivery costs while enhancing productivity and customer service metrics.
- Implement a common carrier strategy to partner with reliable and cost-effective carriers, including conducting quarterly business reviews.
- Establish and maintain a management system centered around Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to enhance delivery performance, asset utilization, and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with Distribution Center Operations to support both daily operations and strategic initiatives.
- Manage relationships with transportation vendors and courier companies servicing the assigned regions.
- Work closely with Implementation and Commercial Teams to ensure smooth transitions during customer onboarding.
- Participate as a regional leader in transportation sourcing events organized by the Transportation Procurement Team, covering various transportation modes.
- Ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and safety standards.
- Stay informed about regulatory changes affecting the management of the dedicated fleet and communicate relevant updates to corporate and division management.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; a focus on transportation, supply chain, or logistics is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in transportation operations; prior supervisory or management experience is advantageous.
- Proven effectiveness in Transportation Management System (TMS) planning and optimization.
- Strong communication skills to engage with all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated success in reducing costs and enhancing asset-based transportation networks across multiple sites.
- Experience managing multiple locations providing inbound and outbound services.
- Ability to analyze the regional transportation network and effectively present findings to management.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Proficient in MS Word and Excel, with strong planning and organizational skills.
