Position Overview


The role involves delivering diagnostic and surgical care to patients within the healthcare system, adhering to the stipulations of the employment agreement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive surgical care to patients in the General Surgery domain, ensuring compliance with the highest standards of medical practice and ethical conduct. The physician will oversee all patient care matters and will be accountable for the outcomes of each patient interaction.
  • In matters of clinical practice, the physician will report to the departmental medical director; for all other issues, reporting will be to the clinic or departmental administrator.
  • Provide essential general surgery services.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for General Surgery.
  • Offer postoperative care for patients who have undergone surgical procedures performed by the physician.
  • For administrative and operational matters, the physician will report to the Vice President of Ambulatory Services or their designee, including the Physician Administrator. For professional matters, the physician will be under the authority of the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Maintain active clinical privileges within the healthcare system.
  • Exhibit effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients, staff, management, and colleagues. Knowledge of managed care is advantageous. The physician should be a collaborative team member and stay updated on medical and surgical advancements as well as relevant legal and regulatory issues.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


For positions involving direct patient interaction, the employee must possess or acquire the necessary treatment or care competencies as identified by the department's patient demographics.

Specifically, the employee must demonstrate proficiency in: 1) gathering and interpreting information based on patient needs; 2) understanding growth and development; and 3) recognizing the spectrum of treatments required by patients.

Competency Statement: The employee must exhibit competency through initial orientation and ongoing validation to independently execute tasks and additional responsibilities as outlined in the job description and the specific competency checklist for the unit or department.

Common Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Maintain and document all required educational credentials.
  2. Foster positive customer service and collegial relationships.
  3. Adhere to the organization's attendance policy.
  4. Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives within the department and institution.
  5. Conduct work in a cost-effective manner.
  6. Perform duties in accordance with departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to overtime, various shifts, and on-call responsibilities.
  7. Align work with the overall mission and strategic objectives of the organization.
  8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures as applicable.
  9. Execute related duties as assigned.

  • Medical Degree (Required)

MD or DO Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of General Surgery
