Position Overview


Deliver expert diagnostic and surgical interventions for patients within the CAMC Health System and its affiliates as outlined in the employment agreement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional care to patients in the domain of Surgical Critical Care Medicine, adhering to the highest standards of medical practice and ethical conduct. Care will be administered in suitable environments and coordinated with existing staff at each location. The physician will lead all patient care discussions and bear ultimate responsibility for patient outcomes.
  • In matters of clinical practice, the physician will report to the Chief of the Division of Trauma Surgery, collaborating with the Chair of the Department of Surgery and the CAMC Vice President for practice-related issues, under the authority of the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Deliver Surgical Critical Care Medicine services at the designated medical center.
  • Engage in on-call rotations for Surgical Critical Care Medicine as stipulated in the employment contract.
  • Oversee postoperative care for patients who have undergone surgical procedures performed by the physician.
  • Maintain active clinical privileges at CAMC.
  • Establish effective relationships with patients, staff, management, and medical colleagues. Knowledge of managed care is advantageous. A collaborative team approach is essential. Stay updated on medical and surgical advancements as well as relevant legal and regulatory matters.

Patient Group Expertise (Applicable for roles with direct patient interaction): The employee must acquire and demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate assessment, treatment, or care as defined by the department's patient demographics.

Specifically, the employee must demonstrate proficiency in: 1) the ability to gather and interpret information relevant to patient needs; 2) understanding of growth and development; and 3) awareness of the treatment spectrum required by patients.

Competency Requirements: Must show competency through initial orientation and ongoing validation to independently perform tasks and additional responsibilities as specified in the job description and departmental competency checklist.

General Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and document all required educational qualifications.
  • Exhibit positive customer service and collegial relations.
  • Adhere to the organization's attendance policy.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives within the department and organization.
  • Conduct work in a cost-effective manner.
  • Perform duties in accordance with departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to overtime, shift work, and on-call responsibilities.
  • Align work with the overall mission and strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures as applicable.
  • Undertake related duties as assigned.
