Position Overview

As a vital member of our healthcare team, you will provide essential technical, administrative, and surgical support to a physician delivering care to patients within our practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the Maxillofacial Surgery Center.
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain dental and medical instruments and supplies.
  • Support surgical staff in acquiring and refining the skills necessary for effective medical and dental assistance.
  • Aid physicians during dental and medical procedures and surgeries.
  • Prepare for surgical interventions by organizing instruments and equipment, completing necessary consent documentation, conducting glucose and pregnancy tests for specific cases, and setting up equipment as required.
  • Administer nitrous oxide under the direction of the physician.
  • Assist during procedures by providing instruments, utilizing suction to maintain a clear surgical field, ensuring patient airway management, and performing wound care as instructed.
  • Capture radiographs using portable x-ray equipment.
  • Manage inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
  • Document pathology specimens accurately.
  • Handle phone inquiries and schedule patient appointments as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

It is essential for the employee to possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care that is appropriate for the developmental stage of the patients they serve. This includes:

  1. Ability to gather and interpret information relevant to patient needs.
  2. Understanding of growth and development across various age groups.
  3. Awareness of the range of treatments necessary for patients.

Competency Requirements
Employees must demonstrate their competency through initial orientation and ongoing validation to perform tasks and additional responsibilities as outlined in the job description.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Education & Experience
  • Formal training is required.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year as an Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant. Alternatively, 3-5 years of experience as a Dental Assistant may substitute for the required experience.

Credentials
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
Work Schedule: Days

Status: 64 hours per pay period
