Position Overview


The Charleston Area Medical Center, Inc. seeks a dedicated and skilled General Surgeon to provide comprehensive surgical care to our patients. This role encompasses both diagnostic and surgical responsibilities in alignment with the terms of the employment agreement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality surgical care to patients, adhering to the ethical standards and medical practices that govern the field of General Surgery. The surgeon will oversee all aspects of patient care and be accountable for the outcomes.
  • Report clinical practice issues to the departmental medical director, while other administrative matters will be directed to the clinic or departmental administrator.
  • Perform a variety of general surgical procedures.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for General Surgery.
  • Provide postoperative care for patients following surgical interventions.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Ambulatory Services or designated personnel for administrative and operational matters, while professional issues will be managed under the authority of the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Maintain active clinical privileges at CAMC.
  • Foster effective relationships with patients, staff, and management, demonstrating teamwork and a commitment to continuous professional development in medical and surgical knowledge.
Required Skills and Qualifications


For positions involving direct patient interaction, the candidate must possess knowledge of the specific patient demographics served by the department. This includes:

  1. The ability to gather and interpret patient information effectively.
  2. Understanding of patient growth and development.
  3. Awareness of the treatment spectrum required for diverse patient needs.

Additionally, candidates must exhibit competency through orientation and ongoing validation to perform assigned tasks independently.

General Duties

  5. Conduct work efficiently and in alignment with departmental practices.

  7. Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements

  • Medical Degree (MD or DO) is mandatory.

Certifications:
Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
