Advanced Physical Plant Mechanic

Overview
The incumbent in this role operates at an advanced level, executing preventative maintenance, HVAC upkeep, and restoration tasks across various traditional trades to ensure the effective functioning of a physical plant.Key Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are essential and represent core functions common to all positions within this classification. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties.
- Conducts routine and complex maintenance repairs on both interior and exterior building structures, fixtures, and associated systems, including heavy-duty mechanical equipment and HVAC systems.
- Engages in restoration and renovation of facilities, including historical structures; constructs partitions and shelving based on sketches or plans, refurbishes furniture and equipment, and may design layouts for optimal space utilization.
- Advises on the referral of tasks that exceed financial or capability limits to external contractors.
- Maintains and repairs compressors, pumps, hydraulic lifts, and operates HVAC systems, as well as complex plumbing projects.
- Operates and ensures the functionality of life safety systems, including sprinkler systems.
- May supervise skilled and semi-skilled maintenance personnel in specific assignments or training scenarios.
- Keeps detailed records of work performed, materials utilized, and time allocated to tasks, and may procure materials and supplies through established procedures.
- May be involved in highway lighting or drawbridge maintenance activities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications for Physical Plant Maintenance/Trades Mechanic III
Candidates must demonstrate education, training, and/or experience in the following areas:
- A minimum of six months of experience operating and maintaining various equipment and tools used in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC.
- At least six months of experience working in diverse trades including plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC.
- Six months of experience in maintaining records.
- Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, schematics, or technical drawings.
- Knowledge in estimating costs, time, and materials for projects.
- A valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled).
Employment Conditions
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The organization participates in the Federal E-Verify system, confirming work authorization for new hires.
