Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physical Plant Maintenance/Trades Mechanic III to join our team at the State of Delaware. This is a critical role that requires a strong background in maintenance and repair of physical plant systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on physical plant systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including hand and power tools, and heavy-duty structural and mechanical equipment.
  • Perform restoration and renovation work on facilities, bridges, and historical buildings.
  • Recommend referral of jobs beyond financial or capability limits to private contractors.
  • Maintain and repair compressor, pumps, hydraulic lifts, treatment and disposal plants, and operate and maintain HVAC systems and complex plumbing projects.
  • Operate and maintain life safety devices, such as sprinkler systems.
  • Oversee the work of skilled, semi-skilled maintenance, and laboring personnel in performing specific assignments or in a training situation.
  • Maintain records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on assignments.
Requirements
  • 6 months experience in operating and maintaining a variety of equipment, hand and power tools used in trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC.
  • 6 months experience in performing work in a variety of trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC.
  • 6 months experience in record keeping.
  • Knowledge of interpreting blueprints, schematics, or technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of estimating cost, time, and materials for projects.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and changing priorities. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and must be able to lift and move heavy equipment and materials.
