Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified and passionate Spanish language educator to join our team at Hackensack Public Schools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching Spanish language, literature, and culture to middle school students. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing an instructional program that aligns with the NJ Student Learning Standards for World Languages. This will include designing and delivering daily instruction using second language acquisition theory, methodology of comprehensible input and output, and proficiency-based instruction. The teacher will also be responsible for preparing and implementing lessons that provide meaningful, culturally-sustaining, and individualized learning experiences for students. Additionally, the teacher will regularly monitor student academic progress and provide progress reports as required. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues both inside and outside the World Language Department.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement an instructional program in accordance with the NJ Student Learning Standards for World Languages
  • Design and deliver daily instruction using second language acquisition theory, methodology of comprehensible input and output, and proficiency-based instruction
  • Prepare and implement lessons that provide meaningful, culturally-sustaining, and individualized learning experiences for students
  • Regularly monitor student academic progress and provide progress reports as required
  • Exercise open and respectful communication with students, families, co-workers, supervisors, and other school staff
  • Attend professional development sessions in order to further advance professional practice
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Professional or Small Learning Communities
  • Provide a safe, respectful, and nurturing learning environment for all students in the classroom and on the school campus
  • Create an aesthetically welcoming, organized, functional, stimulating, and healthy classroom
  • Perform all professional duties with timeliness and accuracy
  • Maintain a reflective teaching practice

Qualifications:
  • NJ Teacher of Spanish Certification
  • Passion for and competence in teaching adolescents Spanish language, literature, and culture
  • Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional strategies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, flexibility, and ability to collaborate with colleagues both inside and outside the World Language Department
